Holy Martyr Theophilus the New (+784)

The holy Martyr Theophilus the New, of Constantinople, was a commander of the Greek army and a senator. In one of the battles with the Arabs the enemy took him captive. The lawless tried in vain to turn the saint away from the true faith, after which they threw him into prison on the island of Cyprus. Four years later the blessed martyr was beheaded.
