Holy Martyr Theodore (+1784)

The holy Martyr Theodore was born in the city of Mytilene; he married and brought up his children in faithfulness to the Orthodox faith. By God’s permission he denied Christianity, but soon he fell into repentance, left his family and went to Mount Athos. The holy father found no rest in the monastery and grieved bitterly over what had happened. The Lord blessed His chosen one to confess Christ before a Muslim tribunal. The enraged judge ordered the martyr to be terribly tortured, after which he was strangled with a rope and thrown into the sea. The Christians buried the holy martyr’s body in the church of John the Baptist.
