Venerable Varlaam of Keret (XVI)
The Venerable Varlaam of Keret served as a priest on the coast of the White Sea in the sixteenth century. Among his spiritual and bodily labours a special place was held by his prayerful care for seafarers and for those whose trade was bound up with the sea. His contemporaries were often saved from certain death by the saint’s prayer and by calling on his name.
Saint Varlaam also became famous for miracles after his death. Through prayers offered to him many who had been given up for lost were saved from drowning.
