Publishing house "Alilo" — under the auspices of the Patriarchate of Georgia's Center for Kartvelological Studies — has published a new book by the well-known researcher of Church history, Professor Eldar Bubulashvili.
The work presents and scientifically examines the trial of Hieromartyr Ambrose (Khelaia); in particular, the speech delivered at that trial by his lawyer, Kirile Ninidze. As it turns out, it was precisely this speech that ensured Ambrose (Khelaia) was not sentenced to the highest measure of punishment, despite the fact that the audience, directed by the authorities, was demanding his execution by firing squad.
Hieromartyr Ambrose was glorified as a saint by the Georgian Church in 1995. And although a number of works about him have been published, the majority of the written sources still remain unstudied.
It is precisely this gap that the present work fills, based on archival material preserved in the National Center of Manuscripts, as well as the rest of the hierarch's written legacy.
It is a joy that this new publication reveals yet another significant episode from the heroic history of the Church of Georgia.
