Prophet Nahum (7th Century Before the Nativity of Christ)
The Prophet Nahum, one of the twelve minor prophets, was born in Galilee and was active in the seventh century before the Nativity of Christ. Two hundred years before Nahum, the Prophet Jonah, at the Lord’s command, had told the inhabitants of Nineveh that the city awaited destruction for their lawlessness. Then the Ninevites repented, and the Lord changed His stern sentence. Time passed, and the people of Nineveh became corrupt again. This time, through the Prophet Nahum, God revealed to them the series of terrible calamities that would befall them. The prophecy was fulfilled exactly: this city, one of the most important and richest of the ancient world, was utterly destroyed and plundered by its enemies, and a flood of the River Tigris finally wiped it out.
The Prophet Nahum also foresaw the events of the New Testament: “Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off” (Nahum 1:15).
No information about the life of the Lord’s chosen one has been preserved. He died at the age of forty-five and was buried in his homeland.
