Hieromartyr Marcian, Bishop of Syracuse (II)
The Hieromartyr Marcian, bishop of Syracuse, was a disciple of the Apostle Peter. He was sent to Sicily to preach the word of God. Saint Marcian settled in a cave near the city of Syracuse and zealously preached the faith of Christ. The blessed ascetic ended his life as a martyr: he was killed by the Jews of Syracuse in the Italian city of Gaeta (Saint Marcian is also commemorated on 9 February under the name Marcellus).
