Holy Martyrs Eventius and Maximus (+361–363)
The holy Martyrs Eventius (Juventinus) and Maximus were bodyguards of the Emperor Julian the Apostate (361–363). When the lawless autocrat came to Antioch, he ordered the drinking water and the food brought to market for sale to be defiled with the blood of idol sacrifices. The soldiers refused to carry out this order, for which they were put to death. The Church also commemorates the holy martyrs on 5 September.
