Holy Martyr Polychronius the Presbyter (IV)
The holy Martyr Polychronius the presbyter was brought up from childhood in the Christian outlook; he was the son of a poor farmer. When he came of age the saint left his native home, went to Constantinople and began to work in the vineyards of a wealthy owner. The master was amazed at his diligence and paid him generously. With the money he earned the blessed one built a church. There is a report that Polychronius, in the rank of reader, took part in the sessions of the First Ecumenical Council (Nicaea, 325). Soon he was ordained presbyter. The Lord’s chosen one was killed by Arian heretics during a service, in the sanctuary of the church (4th century).
