Holy Martyrs Julian the Presbyter and Caesarius the Deacon (I)
The holy Martyrs Julian the presbyter and Caesarius the deacon, holy fathers who directly carried on and preached the teaching of the apostles, died as martyrs for Christ.
Caesarius was seized in the Italian city of Taracina (later Terracina) and taken to the temple of Apollo, but as soon as the saint came near, the heathen temple collapsed and buried the people and priests gathered in it. At that time the idol-worshippers seized the Christian presbyter Julian. By the emperor’s order both martyrs were drowned in the sea, but by the will of God their holy bodies floated up to the surface of the water. The Orthodox carried them away and buried them with honour. The incorrupt relics of the blessed Caesarius are now kept in Rome.
