Holy Apostle Quadratus, of the Seventy (+c. 130)

The holy Apostle Quadratus, one of the Seventy, was the hierarch of the diocese of Magnesia (a peninsula east of Thessaly). He converted many pagans to the law of Christ. The blessed one’s God-pleasing work filled the idol-worshippers with hatred. Once an enraged mob attacked the apostle to stone him, but with help from on high the saint survived. Then the godless threw him into prison and starved him to death (+c. 130). The holy body of Quadratus was buried in Magnesia.

In 126 the blessed apostle wrote and presented to the Emperor Hadrian (117–138) an apology in defence of Christianity, which so affected the ruler who persecuted the Orthodox that he ordered that no one be tried without evidence.
