Holy Martyr Theodore of Alexandria

No exact information has survived about the life and labours of the holy Martyr Theodore of Alexandria. It is known that he was born in Alexandria. The father, known for his fervent preaching and holy life, was bitterly hated by the pagans of Alexandria. During one of his sermons they surrounded the blessed one and seized him. The holy hierarch offered no resistance. The lawless beat him cruelly, set a crown of thorns on his head, led him about the city and mocked him, then took him up onto a cliff rising above the seashore and threw him into the deep. Suddenly a wind arose, and the waves cast the man well-pleasing to the Lord up on the shore unharmed. The dumbfounded godless men brought the blessed Theodore to the head of the city, and he gave orders for him to be cruelly tortured. Not one word escaped the lips of the courageous confessor except prayer. At last the exhausted pagans beheaded the martyr.
