The Prophet Micah (VIII c. before the Nativity of Christ)

The Prophet Micah, one of the twelve minor prophets, was of the tribe of Judah. He was born south of Jerusalem, in the town of Moresheth, and so he is called the Morasthite. The blessed one began his prophetic service in 778 before the Nativity of Christ and laboured for more than fifty years. His denunciations and prophecies concerned both Judah and Israel. The saint foresaw the calamities that would befall the kingdom of Israel after its destruction, and Judah at the time of the invasion of Sennacherib, king of Assyria. To Micah belongs the prophecy of the birth of the Saviour. The blessed one’s relics were uncovered in the fourth century after Christ in Beratsatia, after the Lord revealed the prophet’s resting place in a miraculous vision to Zebennus, Bishop of Eleutheropolis.
