St Myron the Wonderworker, Bishop of Crete (+c. 350)
Saint Myron the Wonderworker, Bishop of Crete, was born in the city of Raukia on the island of Crete. In his youth he was married and worked the land; he generously distributed to the poor the harvest gained by his diligent labour, while he and his household contented themselves with only what was necessary. Once Saint Myron caught thieves on his threshing floor, but he did not grow angry with them: he calmly helped them lift the sacks onto their shoulders. By such forbearance the blessed one brought the robbers to such repentance that they began to live honest lives. The Lord chose His God-pleaser to be a shepherd of rational sheep: he was first ordained priest, and then consecrated bishop as well. For his tireless labours the holy hierarch was granted the gift of wonderworking. By making the sign of the cross he stopped the flooding river Triton. The hierarch Myron commended his soul to the Lord at the age of a hundred, around 350.
