Holy Martyr Hyacinth of Amastris (IV)
The holy Martyr Hyacinth was born into a family of pious Christians living in the city of Amastris. The newborn was named by an angel who appeared miraculously. The child was three years old when through his prayer the Lord raised a dead boy. After this the two boys grew up together and together laboured in a pious life. Once Saint Hyacinth saw the pagans worshipping a tree and, shaken by the blindness of their minds, cut the tree down. For this the godless cruelly tortured him: they knocked out his teeth, dragged him bound with ropes, and at last threw him into prison, where he commended his soul to the Lord (+not later than the fourth century).
