Holy Martyr Serapion (II–III)

The holy Martyr Serapion lived in the reign of the Emperor Septimius Severus (193–211). During the persecution of the Christians the saint was seized and brought before the tribunal of the governor Aquila, where he boldly confessed his faith. Infuriated by this, the pagans cruelly tortured the blessed one and then shut him up in prison.

The Saviour encouraged the Lord’s chosen one by a miraculous appearance and healed him of his wounds. When the godless saw Serapion brought before the tribunal again completely unharmed, in their rage they sentenced him to be burned. The martyr commended his soul to the Lord on the pyre (+205).
