Venerable David of Thessalonica (c. 540)
The Venerable David of Thessalonica (+c. 540) laboured in the monastery of the holy Martyrs Theodore and Mercurius, and later made himself a shelter under an almond tree near the city of Thessalonica and settled there. The holy father prayed unceasingly, fasted strictly, and patiently endured frost and scorching heat. His labours were pleasing to the Lord, and He granted him the gift of wonderworking. The blessed ascetic healed the sick and gave counsel profitable for the soul to all who came. The father, who had attained dispassion and become like an earthly angel, could take red-hot coals in his hands for censing without suffering any harm.
The Venerable David reposed in peace around 540.
