Holy Martyr Demetrius (+1657)

The holy Martyr Demetrius of Philadelphia (Asia Minor) was born into a Christian family. In early boyhood the saint was carried off by the Turks and made a Muslim. At twenty-five he realised that he had turned his back on the true God. He decided to break off all ties with the unbelievers and publicly confessed Christ the Saviour. For this the Turks hacked the blessed martyr to pieces. Having washed away his sins with his own blood, the holy martyr commended his soul to the Lord in 1657.
