Uncovering of the Holy Relics of St Alexis, Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia, the Wonderworker (1431)
The uncovering of the holy relics of Saint Alexis, Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia, the Wonderworker (1431). Before his death Saint Alexis left instructions that he be buried in the Kremlin, in the Chudov (Miracles) monastery. By order of the holy right-believing Prince Dimitry Donskoy the metropolitan’s body was buried by the altar of that church.
On 20 May 1431 the dome of the church collapsed with age. During the building of the new church the incorrupt relics of Saint Alexis were uncovered. In 1485 the holy relics were translated to a church built in the saint’s name. Today his relics are kept in the patriarchal cathedral in Moscow.
