Martyrs Dadas, Maximus and Quintilian (286)
The holy Martyrs Dadas, Maximus and Quintilian (+286) met their end in the time of the Emperor Diocletian (284–305).
By the emperor’s order his deputies Tarquinius and Gavinius organised a lavish pagan festival in the city of Dorostolum, where a great many people gathered to worship the false gods. When the festival was over, the emperor was told that three brothers, Dadas, Maximus and Quintilian, had taken no part in the pagan sacrifice, contrary to his decree.
The governors questioned the brothers. Tarquinius offered Saint Maximus the priesthood of Zeus. But the saint called Zeus a foul adulterer and again confessed the true God.
Then Tarquinius had him shut up in prison together with Saint Dadas and Quintilian. At midnight, when the saints had fallen asleep, the devil appeared to them, but when they woke they saw an angel, who strengthened the confessors.
After several days of torture the holy martyrs were put to the sword (+286).
