Holy Martyr Irene (+205–304)
The holy Martyr Irene lived with other Christians in a cave in strict ascetic labour. On the denunciation of pagans she was seized and thrown into prison; for fearlessly confessing Christ she was cruelly tortured: her tongue was torn out, her teeth were knocked out, and at last she was beheaded, around 205–304.
