Holy Martyr Nicander (+302)

The holy Martyr Nicander suffered in Egypt in the time of the Emperor Diocletian. He was a physician; during the persecution of Christians he visited the confessors in the prisons and helped them.

Once Nicander saw the bodies of Christians that had been thrown out for the beasts to tear apart, and went at night to bury them. He was noticed, seized and cruelly tortured: he was flayed alive and then beheaded.
