Venerable Basil the Confessor (+750)
The Venerable Basil the Confessor was a monk. He suffered for faithfulness to the Orthodox faith in the time of the iconoclast Emperor Leo the Isaurian (717–741). When the persecution of the venerators of the holy icons began, Basil, together with his fellow struggler the Venerable Procopius (commemorated 27 February), was tortured and thrown into prison. There the confessors suffered until the death of the lawless emperor. The Venerable Basil reposed in peace in 750.
