Description
This large nickel-plated brass baptism box on legs holds everything needed for the Sacrament of Baptism: glass vessels for oil and chrism with labelled lids, a brush and an anointing stick, and small scissors for cutting a lock of hair. The lower part is framed with gilded floral ornament, and the lid bears a gilded cross that stands out against the silver background. The sides show a six-winged seraph and St John the Baptist, who baptised Jesus Christ Himself in the River Jordan. Its generous size (base 170 × 105 mm) holds not only the essentials but spare bottles, candles, cloths and anything else the priest may wish.
