Description

Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Maximos the Confessor.

Saint Maximοs the Confessor was born in 580 AD in Constantinople and received a great religious education. He began his monastic life from the Monastery of Chrysoupoleos in Constantinople and quickly became identified with the struggle against the heretical Monothelitism, which angered the Emperor Constans.

After an illegitimate council convened by the Emperor, Saint Maximos the Confessor was sentenced to have his tongue and right hand mutilated. This torture led to his death in 662 AD.

His written work remains to this day an important source of ascetic teaching and is studied by priests and monks.

Apolytikion

You are a guide of Orthodoxy, a teacher of piety and modesty, a luminary of the world, the God inspired pride of monastics. O wise Maximos, you have enlightened everyone by your teachings. You are the harp of the Spirit. Intercede to Christ our God for the salvation of our souls.

The Icon of Saint Maximos the Confessor is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.

During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.

It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
