Diaphanous Byzantine Icon of Panagia Chrysafitissa.

According to Christian tradition, the miraculous Icon of Panagia Chrysafitissa travelled, in a miraculous way, from the village of Chrysafa in Laconia to Monemvasia . The icon was found by an old woman who called the Bishop and then he organized its procession to the Temple, where it was placed accordingly.

When some Laconians visited the Temple, they recognized the Icon and with the judge's decision, they returned it to its original position. However, the icon was miraculously found again in Monemvasia, where it was decided to rest in the Holy Temple of Panagia Hodegetria, which existed in the place before 1150 AD.

The new Temple took the name of Panagia Chrysafitissa and at the spot springs Holy Water.
