Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Panteleimon, the Great Martyr.
Saint Panteleimon was born in Nicomedia in Asia Minor to an idolater father and a Christian mother, from whom she received the knowledge of the Scriptures. He was baptized by Saint Ermolaos and with the help of God, but also his medical knowledge, he cured every disease. Because of his philanthropy, his original name which was "Pantoleon" which meant "all lion", became "Panteleimon" meaning "merciful to all".
He was condemned to death under the reign of Maximian, when he healed a blind man who boldly martyred his healer. After horrific torture, Saint Panteleimon was beheaded in 305 AD.
