Saint Simon Zelotes was one of the Twelve Apostles. He came from Cana and was also known by the name of "Simon the Cananite". The name "Zealot" was given to him because of the zeal he showed in teaching the Gospel.

After the Ascension of Jesus Christ, the Saint Simon Zelotes the Apostle devoted himself to his missionary work and traveled to Egypt and Persia to preach the Word of God. Christian tradition states that he was captured by pagans in Britain, where he had been to preach the Gospel, and condemned to death by crucifixion.
