Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saints Photius and Anicetus of Nicomedia.
Saints Photius and Anicetus came from Nicomedia and were related by blood, as Saint Photius was the nephew of Saint Anicetus.
Saint Anicetus became known for the strong support he showed in favor of the Christians, when the emperor Diocletian declared their persecution in the Senate. Saint Anicetus spoke with harsh words that angered Diocletian, who ordered his death. Then, the emperor's army threw Saint Anicetus to a lion to devour him, but the beast was tamed in the presence of the Saint. Then they put him on a wheel under a burning fire but again the wheel stopped by miracle.
Saint Photius , moved by the power of God, ran and hugged his uncle, which angered the army, causing them to be immersed in boiling water, where they breathed their last.
