Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Luke of Mount Steirion.
Saint Luke was born in 896 AD and grew up in Phocis. As a child he was meek and religious. In the following years, and after the death of his parents, he divided his property and settled in a mountain hut.
With the invasion of the Bulgarians, Luke left Phocis for the Peloponnese, but returned in 927 AD and set up a Monastery, together with other monks, near Mount Steirion.
Over the years, the Monastery of Saint Luke became famous and many people visited it. Saint Luke fell asleep in 953 AD and his holy relic is kept in the Monastery.
