Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Lawrence of Salamina.
Saint Lawrence was born in Megara and was a farmer when the Virgin Mary appeared to him three times through a vision and ordered him to build a Church in her honor in the northern part of Salamis. At first, Lawrence had doubts and did not set out for Salamis, but the Virgin Mary still commanded him.
When Lawrence finally made the decision, he reached the coast, but due to a big storm, there was no boat to take him across. Then he heard the voice of the Virgin telling him to spread his cloak in the water and climb on it.
In this miraculous way, Lawrence finally reached Salamis and went to the place indicated to him to discover the ruins of the original temple that was built there, and also the Icon of Panagia Phaneromene .
Because of his faith and his miraculous work, Lawrence was declared Saint and fell asleep in 1707.
