St Theodore, Archbishop of Constantinople (+c. 686)

Saint Theodore was a native of Constantinople. For his pious life he was ordained presbyter. The Lord’s chosen one served as a priest in the Church of Hagia Sophia and also carried out the duties of keeper of the sacred vessels. In 676 Theodore was chosen Patriarch of Constantinople, but two years later, denounced by slanderers, he was deposed from the throne. In 683 justice triumphed and the blessed one was restored to his rank. From then on, until the day of his death, he governed the Church of Constantinople in peace; he died around 686.
