Venerable Paul of Latros (+955)
The Venerable Paul of Latros was a native of the city of Elaea. He lost his father early and was brought up in Phrygia, in the monastery of Saint Stephen. Then he began his ascetic labours on Mount Latros near Miletus. Striving for still higher degrees of perfection, the father shut himself up in a cave and gained the gifts of clairvoyance and wonderworking. The Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus (912–959) often wrote letters to the Lord’s chosen one, asking for his prayers, blessing and counsel. The saint foresaw the approach of his end and in 955 committed his soul to the Lord in peace.
