St Sophronius, Archbishop of Cyprus (VI)

Saint Sophronius, Archbishop of Cyprus, was born into a Christian family on the island of Cyprus. He mastered many sciences, but set Holy Scripture above them all. The Lord’s chosen one was distinguished by piety, love for the poor and an ascetic life, for which he was granted by the Lord the gift of working miracles. After the death of Saint Damian, Bishop of Cyprus, the Venerable Sophronius was enthroned in the widowed see at the wish of the whole people. In his new rank he governed his flock wisely and with love. He died in the sixth century.
