Holy Martyrs Alexander the Bishop, Heraclius the Soldier, and Four Women: Anna, Elizabeth, Theodotia and Glyceria (III)
The holy Martyrs Alexander the bishop, Heraclius the soldier, and the women Anna, Elizabeth, Theodotia and Glyceria suffered for confessing Christ in the third century in the city of Adrianople. Despite the persecution of the Orthodox, Bishop Alexander boldly preached the saving teaching among the pagans and brought many of the godless to the light of Christ. The governor of the province where the holy hierarch served ordered his soldiers to seize the hierarch and torture him. The Lord’s chosen one patiently endured many kinds of torment. The soldier Heraclius, amazed at his calm, believed in the true God. Anna, Elizabeth, Theodotia and Glyceria also publicly confessed Christ. After cruel torture they were all put to death.
