The Translation of the Relics of Saint Hilarion of Moglena (1206)

Saint Hilarion of Moglena was a noble Greek of Constantinople. At eighteen he withdrew from worldly pleasures and became a monk. Soon, for his devout, strict and ascetic life, the blessed father was appointed superior of the house. The saint cared diligently for the salvation of the souls entrusted to him, and urged the brethren to guard the precious time given them for salvation. In 1134 the Lord’s chosen one was consecrated bishop of Moglena. In this rank he laboured much to expose the heretical teachings of the Bogomils and the Monophysites, which were widespread in Bulgaria at that time. The holy hierarch died in 1164. In 1206 his incorrupt relics were translated from Moglena to the city of Tarnovo. On 21 October the Church commemorates this very event.
