Venerable Silvanus, Presbyter of Gaza (IV)

The Venerable Silvanus, a presbyter of Gaza, was seized for preaching Christ and condemned to the hardest labour in the copper mines of the Palestinian city of Phaeno. There the lawless beheaded the blessed one together with forty Christians whom he had converted (+311–312). The Church also commemorates the holy father on 4 May (see the reading for that day).
