Holy Martyrs Peregrinus, Lucian, Pompeius, Hesychius, Papius, Saturninus and Germanus (II)

The holy Martyrs Peregrinus, Lucian, Pompeius, Hesychius, Papius, Saturninus and Germanus were Italians. They suffered for Christ in the reign of the Emperor Trajan (98–117) in the city of Dyrrachium, on the shore of the Adriatic Sea.

The saints were present at the martyrdom of Bishop Astius (commemorated 4 June), who was crucified by the pagan Romans, and publicly glorified the firmness and courage of the blessed father. For this they were seized and drowned in the sea. The waves cast the martyrs’ bodies ashore, and the Christians buried them in the sand. Several decades later the God-pleasers appeared to the bishop of Alexandria and commanded him to bury the holy relics. The hierarch carried out the command from on high and also built a church over the martyrs’ grave.
