Hieromartyr Methodius, Bishop of Patara (+312)

Saint Methodius was Bishop of Patara (in the region of Lycia, Asia Minor). He was distinguished by meekness and humility and instructed his flock quietly and without complaint, but when it came to defending the Orthodox faith he showed wonderful firmness and fought the heretics tirelessly. The saint left us a rich literary legacy. To him belong works refuting the pagan faith and the heresies widespread at that time, moral exhortations, interpretations of Holy Scripture, and others.

In 312 Saint Methodius was seized by the pagans and beheaded for his bold confession of Orthodoxy.
