St Cyril, Archbishop of Alexandria (+444)
Saint Cyril of Alexandria was born in Alexandria, into a noble Christian family, in the second half of the fourth century. He held the hierarchal throne in 412–444. The blessed father presided over the Third Ecumenical Council convened at Ephesus in 431, which anathematised Nestorius and his false teaching. In 444 the saint peacefully commended his soul to the Lord. He left us many works of a moral and theological character.
