Hieromartyr Therapon, Bishop of Sardis (III)

The Hieromartyr Therapon, Bishop of Sardis, suffered for Christ in the third century. He converted many pagan Hellenes to the law of Christ. Brought before the tribunal of Julian, the hierarch fearlessly confessed Christianity, for which he was thrown into prison and tortured for a long time with hunger and thirst. The tormented hierarch was put in fetters and taken first to the Phrygian city of Synaos and then to Ancyra. At last the courageous confessor of Christ gave up his spirit amid tortures and torments in the diocese of Satala, subject to the metropolis of Sardis. A dry stake soaked with the martyr’s blood blossomed, and its leaves acquired healing power.
