Holy Apostle Andronicus and His Fellow Labourer Junia (I)
The holy Apostle Andronicus and his fellow labourer Junia (I) were kinsfolk of the holy Apostle Paul. The apostle mentions their labours in the Epistle to the Romans: “Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me” (Rom. 16:7). Saint Andronicus was consecrated Bishop of Pannonia. They travelled through other countries too, preaching. As a result of the saints’ labours the pagans became Christians, destroyed their idol-temples and built Christian churches in their place. It is known that they met a martyr’s end for Christ.
In the fifth century, in the time of the Emperors Arcadius and Honorius, their holy relics were uncovered. Later a large church was built on that spot.
