Holy Martyr Maximus (+250)
The holy Martyr Maximus (+250) met his end in the time of the Emperor Decius (249–251). Saint Maximus was a merchant; he led a pious life and converted many pagans to the law of Christ. Once, when the pagans had gathered to offer sacrifice, Saint Maximus could not bear the loathsome spectacle; he rushed at the godless, loudly denounced their lawlessness, and called the idols lifeless things made by human hands. The enraged pagans stoned the holy martyr to death.
