Venerable Zacharias the Faster, of the Kiev Caves (XIII–XIV)

The Venerable Zacharias the Faster, of the Kiev Caves (XIII–XIV), laboured in the Far Caves of the Caves monastery. The venerable father was distinguished by exceptional fasting: he took no food cooked on a fire, ate only herbs, and ate once a day, after sunset. His labour was pleasing to the Lord. The evil spirits trembled at the mere sound of his name. The holy father was also granted the gift of seeing angels and the gift of foreknowledge.
