Venerable Domnina the Syrian (+450–460)
The Venerable Domnina the Syrian (+450–460) was a disciple of Saint Maron (commemorated 14 February). She built a hut roofed with reeds in her parents’ garden and settled there. For food she took only lentils soaked in water. Every dawn and every evening the venerable mother went to church with her head so covered that no one could recognise her. In the words of her biographer, the Venerable Theodoret, “the Venerable Domnina had a voice that went straight to the heart, and her words were always accompanied by tears of repentance.”
Saint Domnina reposed in peace around 450–460.
