Venerable Eulogius, Archbishop of Alexandria (+607–608)
The Venerable Eulogius, Archbishop of Alexandria, was active in the sixth century. At first he was superior of the Justinian monastery of the Nativity of the Saviour in Antioch, and then he was enthroned in the see of Alexandria. In his new rank he struggled tirelessly for twenty-seven years against various heresies. Information about Eulogius’s work is preserved in the letters addressed to him by the venerable father Gregory the Dialogist.
Saint Eulogius died in 607 or 608. His writings survive only in part, in the form of extracts made by Patriarch Photius. They deal mainly with the two natures of Christ and are directed against various heresies widespread in his time. Only one of his sermons, delivered on Palm Sunday, has come down to us complete.
