St Gerasimus of Great Perm (Ust-Vym) (+1441)

Saint Gerasimus, Bishop of Great Perm (Ust-Vym), ascended the hierarchical throne after Stephen, the enlightener of Perm. His flock suffered greatly from the raids of the Novgorodians and especially of the pagan Voguls. Saint Gerasimus went fearlessly into their lands and urged the enemies to stop plundering the defenceless Christians of Perm. During one such journey, in 1441, he was killed by a Vogul servant (according to tradition, strangled with his omophorion) (+1441).
