Description

This Easter sign consists of two bright red letters, the abbreviation of the Easter greeting “Christ is Risen” (the lettering is in Church Slavonic), and an 11 × 13 cm icon of the Resurrection. The icon shows Christ's descent into Hades: the Saviour holds the hands of our forefather Adam and foremother Eve, and behind them stand the Old Testament kings and prophets who will be led out of Hades. The icon illustrates the words of the Paschal troparion: “Trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life.”
