"The presence of modern-day saints is a source of hope and comfort for the people of our age, giving an answer to our deepest concerns and aspirations." These words belong to Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol and are taken from the foreword he wrote for the book devoted to the life and work of Saint Ephraim of Katounakia.
The Metropolitan personally knew Saint Ephraim and often received spiritual counsel from him: "It was a great blessing of God for me to come to know and to have close fellowship with Saint Ephraim of Katounakia, to hear his words, to be helped by his counsel, and to have his shining example deeply imprinted upon me. During the time of my visits and stays with him, I myself received from him, through the mystery of confession, the forgiveness of sins, foretellings of future events, and many other blessings," notes the Metropolitan.
The life and work of Saint Ephraim was translated into Georgian by the monk Malachy.
His Eminence Athanasios concludes his foreword to the Georgian edition with these words: "I rejoice that Father Malachy has prepared this translation, and I wholeheartedly wish that the prayers and intercession of Saint Ephraim of Katounakia may protect and guide each one of us."
We hope that this book, depicting the life and work of the venerable father — the honor of publishing whose Georgian translation fell to 'Alilo' — will be a precious acquisition for the Georgian reader.
