Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Mark of Ephesus.
Saint Mark of Ephesus was born in 1392 AD and was brought up with a Christian education. He received theological and philosophical studies and succeeded his father in teaching.
In the following years, Saint Mark wanted to devote himself to God, and so he became a monk. Over the years, he became a priest and was later ordained Archbishop of Ephesus.
In the synod held for the union of the Eastern and Western Churches, Saint Mark found many opponents as he did not want to sign in favor of it.
He was arrested and imprisoned in Lemnos for two years and then returned to Constantinople until his death in 1444.
Troparion
By your profession of faith, O all-praised Mark / the Church has found you to be a zealot for truth. / You fought for the teaching of the Fathers; / you cast down the darkness of boastful pride. / Intercede with Christ God to grant forgiveness to those who honor you!
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Mark of Ephesus is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
