Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Eustathios, the Great Martyr.
Saint Eustathios was originally called Plakidas and was a Roman soldier on the side of Trajan. After a vision he saw during a hunt, he was persuaded to be baptized a Christian, taking the name Eustathios. His family followed his example and turned away from idolatry.
However, when Trajan was informed of his actions, he deposed him and separated him from his family, but this did not affect the faith of Saint Eustathios.
After some years, Trajan invited him to return, but his successor demanded that Saint Eustathios convert. When he refused, they tortured him and locked him and his family inside an animal effigy until they died.
Apolytikion of Saint Eustathios
Thy Martyrs, O Lord, in their courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since they possessed Thy strength, they cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by their prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.
The Icon of Saint Eustathios is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
